Class of 2011 Thornton star Jay Parker of the 16-U Mac Irvin Fire was terrific last year as a freshman at Thornton, and continued his strong play on the travel team circuit with the Fire. Parker rates as one of the elite prospects in a loaded Illinois Class of 2011.
Parker, a 5'8" point guard, is a super-quick floor leader who excels with his ability to run a team. Parker is a stellar penetrator, who makes solid decisions and punishes opponents who play off of him with his ability to bury open jumpers with range.
Parker, who is an honor roll student in the classroom, told ChicagoHoops.com that he currently views his court vision as the strongest part of his game. He is continuing to work on getting stronger, and also his ability to finish at the rim.
Parker also notes that he is "real excited" about the upcoming high school season at Thornton. This year, Thornton basically returns their entire squad from a year ago, and figure to open the season as one of the top teams in Illinois. Parker, Class of 2010 star Reggie Smith, and Class of 2009 standouts Trevell Rivers, Richie Thompson and Jamal Gray all return.
